Bouncy Baby

Adia is about the size of a spaghetti squash.
Today, I am 22 weeks pregnant. I was really interested to see how this week was going to go since it was my first week back at school full time. I worked all day, (and I mean ALL day... about 12 hours or so) on Monday, about 10 hours on Tuesday, and then the kids came and school actually started on Wednesday. I'm not going to lie. It's been a pretty tough week. I have a lot of precious and sweet kids this year, but I have already had a few very intense moments with some students as well. Let's just say that I've already had more drama/intensity in 2 days of teaching this year than I had the entire year last year. Having said that though, today was a thousand times better, and I do have soooo many hard working and sweet kids. Being pregnant also makes me more emotional, and things that didn't bother me before do bother me more now. It's also hard to not be able to use the bathroom as often. I can't just leave my class. I have to have someone cover for me if I need to use the restroom, which these days is pretty often. So, I end up holding it a lot. My feet are already killing me. Being a teacher, I hardly ever get to sit. It's very hard to stand on my feet for hours at a time and to walk around my room assisting children all day. I don't even notice that I've been standing so long, because I love doing what I do, but by the end of the day, I am just amazed at how bad my feet hurt. My lower back and hips hurt some also. I believe that's also probably from just standing and walking all day, along with bending over to help 9 year olds with their work. I think I can actually hear the couch calling my name before I even pull onto my street. :)
I had a doctor's visit this past Wednesday. He says that I am still having a "model pregnancy." I have gained 4 pounds in the last 4 weeks. So, I lost 10 pounds in my first trimester, gained 3, and then gained another 4. She is over a pound now and is about 11 inches or so long. She is so bouncy! She is usually pretty calm during the day while I am on my feet at school, but as soon as I sit down she starts moving. When I get home, I lay down on the couch, pull up my shirt, and just watch my belly bounce around. Micah loves to watch it too. All of her movement is almost distracting when I am trying to go to sleep. I love it so much though. Adia will be putting on a lot of weight in the next weeks. It amazes me that it's taken her 20 weeks to get to 1 pound, but in the next 4 weeks, she will double her current weight, so she'll be about 2 pounds or so pretty soon. At my next doctor's visit, I have to have my glucose test. I've heard from some women that it's not that bad at all and not a big deal. I've also heard stories where women hated the taste and threw up and had to go have the test again. I think I'll be able to handle it fine though. We will see soon enough.
I am still honeymooning in this pregnancy. I am loving it. I'm getting a big belly, but I still have no stretch marks. I'm enjoying watching her grow and play in my belly. I can't wait to see her and kiss her little belly when she gets here.

  1. I had to have the glucose test with all three kids.....it isn't bad. Just an overly sweet drink...I personally just drank it down really fast and got it over with. You'll do fine. Great about the not stretch marks....I know Mom had three of us and she never got a single stretch mark, while I looked like a truck ran over me with Luke...lol....Mom used cold cream every night on her stomach.

  2. I always think it's so interesting too how they are so still when we are busy. Either our movement is rocking them to sleep or our minds are so busy that we're not noticing them move until we slow down.

As for the glucose test, I didn't mind the taste all. Hate the blood-draw but that's just me. It just tasted like kinda flat orange soda to me.

  3. I can totally feel your pain about the teaching and being pregnant thing. Hang in there, girl, and treat yourself to lots of little snacks. I kept a drawer full of candy and I would just chomp it all throughout the day. :) Do you remember Phi Mu Crush day? That is what the glucose stuff tastes like. An orange crush.
I am enjoying keep up with you! Stay positive! :)
